What Mold Has To Do With Weight Loss.

I’ve been struggling for years (many years) to keep unwanted weight off my body and let’s face it, it sucks!

I would think to myself constantly that I was doing something wrong or I just wasn’t disciplined enough. I was caught in the diet roller-coaster and it wasn’t fun.

I was consumed with self doubt and in a spiral of negative self-talk. I almost never felt good about who I saw in the mirror. If I spoke to my best friend that way she would’ve dumped me years ago!

A few years ago I studied to become a health & nutrition coach. I’ve always been fascinated with health and wellness and wanted to take a holistic approach to my lifestyle. Then finally found the courage to quit my 9-5 and practice full-time helping others with similar struggles. Which leads me to where I am now and how I discovered the root cause of my weight loss resistance.

I used to drink heavily and daily (why is a story for another time) and also was a heavy cigarette smoker to boot. So motivation to exercise was practically non existent. I convinced myself that if I quit the heavy drinking and smoking that I would start losing weight. Now to be fair, I knew it wouldn’t happen over night. I have already been eating healthy for a couple years so I didn’t have the stress of adopting a new eating habit, I just had to start moving my body! I should also add that I had to quit those unhealthy habits anyway if I was going to be coaching people to better health, right?! So, I decided to start testing my metabolic health. Blood tests to measure insulin resistance and fasting glucose. Genetic testing and an OAT (organic acids test). After all the testing was done and returned to my ND, she delivered some very shocking news.

You Have MOLD In Your Body!

My blood tests came back perfect (thank goodness). I wasn’t sure how those numbers were going to be because of the amount of alcohol I used to drink but alas, all good.

My genetic & OAT test came back with a poor methylation status. You can learn more about methylation here: https://draxe.com/health/methylation/

So in turn that means I have low neurotransmitter support (serotonin, dopamine, NE/Epi). Also lower mitochondrial function. Not good! I’ve already been supplementing B12 for a few years so that number was fine but it was found that I have zero B6, Vitamin C and the glutathione precursor NAC. Some BIG lifestyle changes were in order!

The one result that really got to me is that I have high fungal/yeast byproducts (Candida & Aspergillus). Aspergillus is basically black mold. I can’t pinpoint where I was exposed but it’s been in my body for quite a few years.

Some symptoms of toxic mold exposure:

  • Sinus Congestion

  • Headaches

  • Brain Fog

  • Weight Gain

  • Fatigue

  • Chronic Digestive Issues

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

And I have all of the above symptoms :(

I was scared but relieved at the same time. Now I know so I can start detoxing the mold out. Make some lifestyle modifications and take some supplements to support me back to optimal health with the guidance of my health care practitioners.

It’s going to be a heck of a journey and I hope you’ll follow along with me. I could really use the support and I hope that if you’re reading this please know, you can reach out to me anytime for my support as well!

I promise to keep giving you more information about how I overcome this mold infection and how my metobolic health improves over time.

With love,

Melissa
